Encaustic paint, made by mixing melted bees wax with natural ground pigments, is used to create unique landscape scenes as well as abstract and semi-abstract works of art. Encaustic paint is extremely versatile in that the surface can be manipulated to create depth and texture. The works are created by using heat to fuse layers of paint together and removing layers by scratching the paint away. The medium is unique as it hardens and dries very quickly once the heat source is removed.
Growing up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I was exposed to the ‘art scene’ at a young age and was inspired by the beautiful vistas that surround northern New Mexico southern Colorado, often bringing supplies to create landscape drawings during family road trips. These works are intended to take the viewer along the same journey of stunning landscapes and to share the beauty and color of this world.
Many of the works are custom pieces inspired from a photograph of a memorable moment in someone’s life, intended to re-create the memory in a unique way. Encaustic paint provides very rich colors and texture, and the ability to add layer upon layer as well as subtracting layers creating depth and atmosphere. All of the pieces are custom framed by the artist in natural hardwoods.
