Apply NOW – Beaverton Arts Mix! (BAM!) Hybrid Art Show & Sale!

Visual artists in Oregon and SW Washington are invited to submit their artwork(s) to the 2022 Beaverton Arts Mix! (BAM!) Hybrid Art Show & Sale. All the selected juried artworks will be included in the online show, at BeavertonOregon.gov/BAM. This year, approximately 40 artworks will be selected to be part of an exhibition at two gallery spaces within the Patricia Reser Center for the Art (The Reser). The in-person exhibition will include award winners and those among the top scoring artworks. There will be an artists’ reception for all selected juried artists in person at The Reser on Thursday, September 8th, from 6-8 pm.

The in-person and the online show will be held for a total of six weeks from Tuesday, September 6th through Saturday, October 18th. Instead of showing all the artworks online for the total of the six weeks, mediums will be sorted into three groups, with each collection showing online for a two-week period. Research from the past two online BAM! shows reveal that when a new show is launched most of the online traffic occurs within the first five days, thus the reason for refreshing the show every two weeks. The artworks exhibited at The Reser Galleries will remain static for the entire duration of the show. All online art sales will be directly between buyers and the artists, and for the live show, staff at The Reser will handle sales for the artists. Monetary prizes and ribbons will be awarded.

Call for Artist –
 Behavioral Health Resource Center
1st Floor Common Wall
Portland, Oregon

The Regional Arts & Culture Council is seeking artists/artist teams living in Oregon and southern Washington to create a site-specific digital design for a 2-dimensional interior artwork for the common wall on the first floor of Multnomah County’s newly constructed Behavioral Health Resource Center. The budget available for the commissions comes from Multnomah County’s Percent for Art Program and is approximately from $15,000 – $20,000

Multnomah County’s Behavioral Health Division is renovating a building at the corner of SW Oak & SW Park Ave in downtown Portland. This will be the site for a new comprehensive behavioral health resource center that will offer immediate basic services for people experiencing houselessness, substance use and/or mental health challenges. The artwork will be scaled as a 2-dimensional artwork on the common wall in the first floor’s Day Center. This active space will be open to visitors who will have access to showers, laundry, peer counseling, housing, meal service and additional services. The artwork on the commons wall will be visible to visitors in the front lobby/common area as well as street and pedestrian traffic on SW Park Ave due to the large storefront windows.

OSA Photography Show: Painting With Light

Deadline for applications is March 25th, 2022.

Partnering with light and a camera, photographers remake the world through images. Each photograph is a time machine, transporting the viewer to a particular time, place, and perspective. From black and white, to pinhole, large format and digital, we want to see the world through your camera lens!

To create a compelling image, the photographer must consider light, composition, contrast, framing, subject, and psyche. What is revealed in the photograph, however, is always a surprise. Subject and photographer are equally unmasked within the camera’s gaze. Celebrating the image in all of its forms, Painting With Light aims to showcase the artistry, depth, and profundity of the photographic medium.

Painting With Light will be juried by Jānis Miglavs, a photographer whose work has been featured in National Geographic, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Outdoor Photographer and more.

Decorate a native bee house and start your own mason bee colony!

Bees play essential roles in maintaining a balanced ecosystem, and are important for pollinating all kinds of plants. But did you know that we have over 4,000 native bees right here in North America, and that many species nest in the ground or plant stems? Join us for a fun-filled afternoon with artist/entomologist Heather Andrews learning about these diverse and fascinating insects.

We’ll start out the class with a lesson on the different types of native bees here in the Willamette Valley, and the various kinds of habitat they need. Then we will decorate mason bee houses.

Students will also receive:

  • Several mason bee cocoons to start their own colony
  • Seed packets to plant native flowers in their yard
  • A coloring book with recipes and plenty of information on native bees
  • A poster with the different native bees found right here in Oregon

This class will be offered at two different locations on different dates. The format for both classes will be identical, but the mason bee houses are slightly different styles. These classes are open to ages 6 and up.
