The Guild IS More Than a Gallery

When the Guild first organized, we were asked to show at the End of the Trail in their gift gallery. Wasn’t much but it got our artists work out into the public view. During that same time, the guild had representation on the newly formed Main Street Oregon City group. The guild was given the opportunity to open “Nomad” galleries in open office spaces on Main Street. Don Slack, owner of property on Main Street and one of the founding members of the Main Street program offered several locations to the guild as property was vacated. We were offered to participate in the First Friday events on Main Street. Businesses opened their doors to artists to set up mini-galleries. These events brought hundreds of residents to Main Street to discover the art, music and food.

The next gallery was located in the Friends of the Library Bookstore. They shared space with books and bookstore volunteers. This location worked well as an interim gallery until being asked to move into the Singer Hill facility. The community always looked forward to our artist events to meet the artists and see all the new artwork.

Now we face a new day with a very difficult year behind us. The guild had a wonderful Pop-up art event in May when we saw new faces out to enjoy an open-air event. In 2 weeks we celebrate the annual Oregon City Festival of the Arts where we will welcome thousands of visitors.

The guild will have a gallery once again and we will continue to work with other organizations to put on city events. We’ve helped the Library celebrate its birthday, worked with the Heritage community, had an art show in the Forest and worked on projects with the Main Street Organization for many years.

We remain a very vital part of this community and continue to contribute to the arts and culture of the city. Brighter days are ahead!

May 10th Virtual Guild Meeting: “The Art of selling Art on Etsy” by Tom and Brianna Bliquez

Tom Bliquez is an amazing and highly successful woodworking artist. Tom uses Etsy for his marketing and sales – and was actually so successful over the holidays that he had to close it down for a bit in order to catch up on sales – who doesn’t want that. His daughter Brianna Bliquez is his go-to professional for Etsy, and is a wealth of information for how to market on this popular Artists‘ sales site. Come join us for a fun informational and productive presentation.

Citizens Bank Non-profit Fundraising Day – October 21st 10am-1pm!

TRAG has been asked to participate in a fun interactive fundraising day with Citizens Bank. Citizens Bank, who is one of Oregon City’s strongest community supporters, is also one of TRAG’s strongest advocates. Citizens is always the first to donate to our Festival each year and they also host one of TRAG’s galleries. On October 21st Citizens is organizing a fun way to donate $2000 to 15 of Oregon City’s non-profits – and TRAG was asked to participate as one of the non-profits! In addition to the $100 that each non-profit will receive for that day, they have been asked to participate in a marble throwing game to win an additional $400 for first place or $300 for second place. Each non-profit will creatively design a box to catch the public’s eye. These will be placed outside the bank. Then people coming to attend the event will be given a few marbles and attempt to throw the marbles into their favorite box. The box with the most marbles will win an additional $400 and second place will win an additional $300. Think of carnival games, but instead of winning a kewpie doll we can receive up to $500 for TRAG.

So come October 21st to Citizens bank at 19245 Mollala Ave in Oregon City across from the Post Office any time between 10am and 1pm. Tell your friends, family, children and grandchildren. Come see out artistic creative box and help win up to $500 for TRAG!

October 12th Virtual Guild Meeting – Writing Compelling Artist Statements

Susan Schenk will present a ZOOM workshop on writing compelling artist statements.

An artist’s statement tells others about you and your work. Writing one is a powerful exercise for
articulating your passion and art. But, it’s also a challenge to capture in words what is often so
hard to express and intangible. No matter your medium or level of proficiency, a good statement
is a useful tool.

In this workshop, you will be guided through a series of questions to gather information to create
a sophisticated artist’s statement, and to deepen your thinking about your own art making. If you
are happy with your current artist’s statement, then write a statement for the fabulous artist you
aspire to be, so that you can set that intention into the universe. Or, answer the questions as
preparation for when you are interviewed for a national artist’s publication.
