Artist Opportunities – January 16, 2024
New Calls for Artists
Oregon City Arts Commission – RFP Public Art- Sculpture (deadline is March 4, 2024)
The Oregon City Arts Commission seeks an artist, or artist team, to create a replacement sculpture for Oregon City’s public art collection. The artwork will be located on the northwest corner of 7th and Center Streets in Oregon City. The new artwork will replace a piece called “Ancient Voices” by the artist Carole Turner, that was permanently damaged due to a car accident. Please note that the Arts Commission is not looking to emulate the former piece. Rather, artists should share their vision for new artwork that will become a mid-town Oregon City landmark.
Writing Contest Announced
Clackamas County Arts Alliance announces a writing contest for Clackamas County residents. This contest, conceived and organized by the Arts Alliance’s Literary Arts Committee, encourages local writers to express their ideas about “Clackamas County – Its life, its history, its future!”
Submissions must be about Clackamas County and can be in the format of a short story, an essay, a poem or a play. Entries in both English and Spanish will be accepted. The contest will open January 3, 2023 and entries must be received by April 3, 2023.
“Contests like this one help writers hone their skills and provide an opportunity for wider recognition. This contest’s broad theme and variety of genres gives writers a chance to truly get creative and showcase their unique talents,” says Tamara Muldoon, a Literary Arts Committee member. “We hope to receive a diversity of submissions in each discipline.”
Winners will be publicly announced during the Clackamas Community College Compose Creative Writing Conference scheduled for May 20, 2023. One First Place winner and one Runner Up winner will be awarded in each of the four genres; short story, essay, poem and play. First Place winners will receive a cash prize of $250 and complimentary registration to the Compose Creative Writing Conference. Runner Up winners will receive a cash prize of $100 and also complimentary registration to the Compose Conference.
The Literary Arts Committee is also seeking businesses or individuals who would like to help sponsor the contest. Sponsors who gift $250 or more will receive extensive recognition both before and during the Compose Conference. Smaller donation amounts are also welcome. Sponsorship donations may be tax deductible as the funds are managed by the Clackamas County Arts Alliance board, a 501(c)3 organization.
For information on contest guidelines, submission instructions, or sponsorship visit the Clackamas County Arts Alliance website at https://clackamasartsalliance.org/writing-contest.

2022 Holiday Show
By Lynda Orzen, Holiday Show Coordinator
The art show only had 28 artist this year with space for 10 more. Let’s hope we can fill it in 2023. This was our 15th annual event-yes 15! Our guild is going to be 16 in 2023! The Holiday Show is only open to members of the guild. The Oregon City News had a wonderful article with one of our artists on the front page! We shared advertising with several other events in the community along with a ½ page ad in the OC News. Over the years, the guild has donated over $7,000 to the Pioneer Community Center’s Meals on Wheels program!
Major kudos to Melody Bush for Facebook advertising, Ingrid Aubry for our postcards and posters – each year they just get better, Kerry Edwards, volunteer coordinator and my right-hand, Lynne Collum for name tags and booth signs and Yelena Shabrova who managed all the computer magic! Couldn’t have done this without good teamwork. Thank you for being so resourceful and fun to work with!
Wintering-in with Spiritual Intent (January 11th, 2023)
As we break into the new year, we may find ourselves uninspired in this dark, damp month. We’ll come together to explore creative ways we can bring sacred light into our lives. Taking a look at images of light, we’ll create our own with oil pastels, acrylics and ink. We’ll pause to meditate on bringing this glow inward and extending it outward into our communities and world.
Date: Wednesday January 11th Time: 10am – 12pm
Leader: Denise Andersen Cost: $25 per personRegister through the Franciscan Spiritual Center. francisspctr.com
The class will be held at St. Catherine Hall on the former Marylhurst College campus. 3159 Furman Dr., Marylhurst, Oregon
Ingrid Aubry’s Calendar in Oregon City News
By Ingrid Aubry

I will be selling them at the TRAG Holiday Show on December 3rd and 4th.
