Call for Art: Art About Agriculture Competition and Touring Exhibition 2023

For 40 years, the Art About Agriculture program at Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences has invited artists throughout the Pacific Northwest to creatively explore the uniquely diverse agricultural and natural resources of our region. Striking a careful balance between agricultural production and conservation, our agriculture and natural resources represent the backbone of resilience for our communities, our food systems, and our environment.

In commemoration of its 40th Anniversary, Art About Agriculture is seeking submissions of art that will help our honored jurors select artwork for this year’s traveling exhibition that speaks to the breadth of agricultural and natural resource research, and its many varied and diverse perspectives across a wide range of artistic mediums.  All artists who draw inspiration from agricultural and natural resource topics, and the people connected to them, are welcome to apply. 

The Regional Arts & Culture Council Announces Round 2 of our Arts3C Grant: Please submit your application by 5pm on March 22, 2023

The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) is pleased to announce the Second Round of Arts3C – Creation, Cultivation, & Community – Grants for the tri-county region of Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas Counties. Applications are due by 5pm on March 22, 2023.  Earlier this year, RACC awarded 193 grantees in our first round of Arts3C.

This grant program is designed to be fully responsive to what artists and art makers in the community need funding to support. Funds are available for artistic output, such as projects, programming, or presentations, or internal capacity, such as operations, personal or professional development, or business investment. Applicants will select their request level ($1,000, $2,000, $3,2000, $4,000 or $5,000) and the application questions will increase with the requested amount. Applicants who are creating and sharing arts and culture programming in all disciplines are welcome to apply.

For Arts3C, RACC will accept applications from individual artists, arts organizations, businesses, nonprofit organizations, or schools who are working on art projects. While the grantees must legally reside or be headquartered in our tri-county service area, they can hire or work with artists, vendors, or other contributors from anywhere.

The Gallery at OSA is pleased to announce the Spring Water Media Juried Show! This exhibition invites submissions in all types of water soluble media, such as watercolor, gouache, acrylic, chalk pastel, etc. Whether your watercolors drip and flow, or you dry brush acrylic paint, we want to see your work created in water-based media. Open to any and all subject matter, this exhibition aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of water media in all of its captivating forms.

The Water Media Show will be juried by Yong Hong Zhong, an accomplished artist with a background working for Disney and MTV. His paintings are renowned for their color, expression and atmosphere. He has received multiple awards and has works in the permanent collection of the Maryhill Museum.

The Gallery at OSA is excited to announce Portraits, Figures, and Selfies, an exhibition featuring the wide range of experimental forms, compositions, and subjects featured in contemporary figure painting. Since ancient times, artists have attempted to capture the aura, personality, humor, and beauty of humanity through representational, abstract, and anatomical art. The figure remains one of the most challenging and rewarding subjects to represent in both form and concept. We want to see your interpretations of the figure, human or otherwise! Whether drawn, painted, sculpted, or photographed, we invite works that delve into the psyche, reflect the self, or depict the body. This exhibit is open to all.

Writing Contest Announced

Clackamas County Arts Alliance announces a writing contest for Clackamas County residents. This contest, conceived and organized by the Arts Alliance’s Literary Arts Committee, encourages local writers to express their ideas about “Clackamas County – Its life, its history, its future!”

Submissions must be about Clackamas County and can be in the format of a short story, an essay, a poem or a play. Entries in both English and Spanish will be accepted. The contest will open January 3, 2023 and entries must be received by April 3, 2023.

“Contests like this one help writers hone their skills and provide an opportunity for wider recognition. This contest’s broad theme and variety of genres gives writers a chance to truly get creative and showcase their unique talents,” says Tamara Muldoon, a Literary Arts Committee member. “We hope to receive a diversity of submissions in each discipline.”

Winners will be publicly announced during the Clackamas Community College Compose Creative Writing Conference scheduled for May 20, 2023. One First Place winner and one Runner Up winner will be awarded in each of the four genres; short story, essay, poem and play. First Place winners will receive a cash prize of $250 and complimentary registration to the Compose Creative Writing Conference. Runner Up winners will receive a cash prize of $100 and also complimentary registration to the Compose Conference.

The Literary Arts Committee is also seeking businesses or individuals who would like to help sponsor the contest. Sponsors who gift $250 or more will receive extensive recognition both before and during the Compose Conference. Smaller donation amounts are also welcome. Sponsorship donations may be tax deductible as the funds are managed by the Clackamas County Arts Alliance board, a 501(c)3 organization.

Black Box Gallery is excited to announce a Black and White juried group photo show. There is often a classic, nostalgic and dynamic translation to black and white photography. Black and White has an important tradition of luminous, well-crafted and thoughtfully composed imagery. Contemporary photographers are involved in this dialog of history and tradition, but with their own modern voice, visions and aesthetics of imagery. Black Box will be looking for a diversity of photographic works and ideas for this exciting exhibition!

Juror: Todd Johnson

Todd Johnson is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery. Todd received his MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has been a photography portfolio reviewer for Photolucida (PDX OR), Critical Mass (PDX OR), Dodho Magazine (Barcelona, Spain) and Blue Sky Gallery (PDX OR). Todd has worked as an independent curator for exhibitions at Linfield College (McMinnville, OR), Gallery Homeland (PDX OR), Mile Post 5 (PDX OR), The Waiting Room Gallery (Minneapolis, MN), 4X Gallery (PDX OR) and The Gorilla Art Gallery (San Francisco, CA). He has worked in arts education and arts administration for 25 years. 

Johnson has exhibited his photographic work in Portland OR, at The University of Oregon (White Box Gallery), Marylhurst University (The Art Gym), Pacific Northwest College of Art, Reed College, Linfield College, FalseFront Gallery and Augen Gallery. National exhibitions include Bushwick Open Studios (Brooklyn, NY), Carroll Square Gallery (Washington, DC), Hi Lo Gallery (Olympia, Washington), Davis and Cline Gallery (Ashland, Oregon), Midway Gallery (Bloomington, Illinois) and The Diego Rivera Gallery (San Francisco, California).

Each exhibition will have 24 photographs selected by the juror for exhibiton at the gallery.

An additional 30 photographs will be selected by the juror for exhibition in our on-line gallery annex.

Call for Artists: Grants Pass Museum of Art 6 x 6 for 2023

This exhibition will feature 6″ x 6″ artwork displayed in a grid, and auctioned off of sale to raise funds for the museum. Display your work in the museum and support the arts in Southern Oregon during this fundraising exhibit. The Grants Pass Museum of Art is raising funds that provide free admission for museum visitors, affordable art classes, and amazing programs for kids. This will also be an online auction.

The competition is open to all 2D and 3D artists, national and international, working in all forms of painting, drawing, photography, graphics, digital, and sculpture are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. 

Selected artists will be featured in a virtual group exhibition online on the Verum Ultimum Art Gallery website. This includes an exhibition page and virtual viewing galleries that show the work in scale. Artists will also be featured through online blogposts. Social media attention and promotion will remain on this exhibition for 5 weeks.
