Live Facebook video of TRAG Monthly meetings

Don’t miss a TRAG monthly meeting.

It’s hard to make every monthly meeting for multiple reasons. You could be on vacation, wrapped up in a blanket with a cold or don’t care to drive late at night.  As Public Relations Coordinator for TRAG we will  start live video streaming of  each monthly meeting.  Our Vice-president Jeanne Cardana is planning some exciting and interesting speakers for the upcoming months.

You will need to be logged in to  Facebook  group “Members of Three Rivers Artist Guild Group” on the second Monday every month at 7 pm.

The live sessions will not be interactive for  member who are watching by live feed. The live video will be of the speakers of the meeting. The audience will not be video’d unless the camera is adjusted for filming. All  audience members present at a meeting will be advised of the live feed so to give or decline permission of possibly being in the video. There may be portions of the meeting when audience questions / participation may occur. The time limits of the meeting may not allow for all verbal conversation to be perfectly clear and legible for the video.

Watch live stream or check back to review under the video tag. These videos will then be saved to the same TRAG members only Facebook page under videos.

Our first live video trial will be March 9th at 7 pm

On Feb 22nd and 23rd is a business symposium at the Multnomah Arts Center for anyone interested in pursuing their art or craft as a business. I thought you might want to send this to your email list. On the very bottom I also have a link with detailed information.

The Creative Metal Arts Guild of Portland is proudly hosting our second annual Maker’s Business Symposium, focusing on the business of art. While a number of the presenters will be metal artists, almost all of the sessions are relevant regardless of your medium. We’re encouraging artists of all sorts and at any stage in their careers to join us, and we’re giving members of other area guilds a chance to attend at guild rates. Membership Conduct and Rules Policy

Dear Guild Members –

Over the past year, TRAG has worked hard on a Membership Conduct and Rules policy for our members. The policy not only defines TRAG’s membership, but affords our members the assurance of a work environment that is free from harassment and/or hostility. I often tell people that I’m not sure why TRAG works as well as it does, but it does, and of course it is because of our members. However, our past and current board also believes that, as with any organization, it is important that we have a policy in place that protects our members in case issues come up. With that in mind, I am attaching the TRAG Membership Conduct and Rules Policy. Please know that we have your best interests in mind, and if needed, you can report any issue that you believe needs to be addressed.”

Thanks for all your help and support.

Women’s Heritage Figures – Call for Artists!

Did you know that this year 2020 celebrates the 100th anniversary of Oregon’s ratification of Amendment 19 which placed women’s voting rights in the Constitution? TRAG has been asked to participate in a year long celebration celebrating women’s rights over the past 100 years. Clackamas County Heritage Council, CCHC, recently asked the Guild to create ten 5-foot cut out figures that depict women’s rights since the mid 1850’s.

These will have a cut out for the face so that the public can take pictures of themselves inside them. Think of the Suffragettes of the 1800’s, Rosie the Riveter from the 1940’s, the bra-burning hippies from the 1960’s, and the #metoo women’s march just 2 years ago. These are only some of the ideas we will be presenting to our artists and participating sponsors.

They will be installed in various places around town, and will receive recognition and exposure through social media, newspapers, and a possible “scavenger hunt”. Artists will be compensated for their work in creating the figures.

Please email president@threeriversartistguild.com if you would like to be a part of this exciting event either as an artist or a volunteer.

More information to follow.

Updated on May 3, 2020

Thanks to all who volunteered for this project. Originally 8 TRAG artists were going to create historical figures depicting women’s rights to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Women Suffragette movement. Each figure was to be a life-size cutout which the public could take a photo opportunity with. They were to be installed at the Heritage sites and various businesses in Oregon City. However, when the pandemic hit, the plans were put aside.

A virtual meeting with the Clackamas County Heritage Council was held on April 15th. Possibilities were discussed to either postpone or continue by a different method. Ideas were considered such as an application like Jib Jab where the public can superimpose their faces onto virtual figures and/or the distribution of coloring books. A second meeting took place just this past week, and it was decided to decrease the number of heritage figures from 8 to 2. These will be installed at 2818 NE 10th Ave in Portland from May 16-30th during the “Parading in Place” event sponsored by the Rose Festival. ANJI GRAINGER WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP APRIL 2020

For Release February 10 to April 1, 2020
Contact: Jean Hauge, jhauge47@gmail.com
ANJI GRAINGER WORKSHOP

All water media artists are invited to the Southwest Washington Watercolor Society (SWWS) sponsored workshop with Anji Grainger from April 8 – 11, 2020. Elements of Texture & Design is the title of this workshop to be held at the Sons of Norway Lodge, 2400 Grant Street, Vancouver, WA.

From Anji . . . “As an instructor, I teach technique rather than a specific project. I focus on building skills that apply to all types of painting, from abstract to representational art. This way the student can use what they learn in their own creative style.”

In this workshop we will create dynamic, textured patterns by employing nontraditional techniques using plant materials, herbs, salt, stones and other elements. We will see how watercolor pigments react and leave beautiful patterns on our surfaces.

Seating is limited  – register now. For Registration contact Rita Bingham at ritabing65@gmail.com. Or visit www.swwswatercolor.org for more information on the Spring Workshop. The cost is $350 (SWWS member) or $400 (non-member).

Call for artists: Earth Day Network wants to feature your art

Earth Day Network’s new initiative, Artists for the Earth™, is inviting artists and arts organizations around the globe to join with Earth Day 2020 and the 50th Anniversary by featuring their work on our pages.

We’re looking for creative pieces focused on the natural world—whether addressing an environmental issue or exalting its wonder and beauty. If you’re an artist who has a work celebrating the planet, we’d love to add your project to our gallery.

(And if you’re not an artist but know of any artists or arts organizations who would like to participate, please forward them this link: https://action.earthday.org/afte)

Art is a crucial way of reaching people. It operates in ways that science alone cannot, making the difficult subject of climate change personal, engaging people’s hearts and inspiring the will to change.

We are eager to give artists everywhere a platform for their work, a way to join the environmental movement and to be part of the celebration of Earth Day’s 50th Anniversary!

For our planet,

Shelley Rogers
