Yelena Shabrova has been a colored pencil artist for over 10 years. Although her love of drawing impassions her to draw horses, landscapes, and flowers, her art reaches out to any number of subjects. You can find her incredibly beautiful artwork on her website at https://www.shabrova.com/.
Although Yelena has been with the Three Rivers Artist Guild only a few short years, she has recently become an integral part of our organization. Yelena’s vast and excellent computer skills are changing the TRAG website before our eyes. Connecting our artists to opportunities, updating our pages, creating an event calendar, posting events, and helping the Guild acquire the best financial bookkeeping system are only some of the tasks Yelena has undertaken since January. Additionally, she regularly takes on extra Gallery shifts if needed, and you will often meet Yelena and her husband attending many of the Guild members’ art shows – just to show their support. Kudos to Yelena for the small and large changes she has suggested, developed and executed for the board, the website, and TRAG’s members. If you see a post from Yelena on Facebook or Instagram, make sure you like or comment on her posting, and help support her as she has done for us!
Today, a consortium of funders (see list below*) announced the creation of the Artist Relief, a $10 million national emergency relief fund for artists and creative workers that will provide $5,000 no-strings-attached grants. It is intended for anyone who earns income from their creative or artistic practice and who has also been affected by COVID-19. Artists or creative workers who have been negatively impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis should visit the Artist Relief webpage and funding application, which includes a COVID-19 Impact Survey for Artists and Creative Workers designed by Americans for the Arts.
*The $10 million fund created by Artist Relief is comprised of a $5 million matching gift from the Andrew W. I signed up to sew and clicked the wrong button. I am now the Outreach Coordinator for Oregon for Sewing for Lives. We have over 10,000 seamstresses and have sewn over 40,000 masks.
As part of the volunteer team, I am reaching out because the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and media outlets have informed the public that medical personnel may have only a limited supply of medical masks. Our group was created in response to the CDC’s new last-resort face mask recommendation and the stories of medical professionals resorting to office supplies to limit their exposure. Since then, our volunteers have made tens of thousands of mask covers, which have been distributed to healthcare and other support facilities across the U.S. and many more continue to be made.
Keep in mind that the mask covers our volunteer sewers create are not intended to prevent infection, or to replace personal protective equipment, but rather cover the medical grade masks. However, they are constructed in a way that can hold up through the disinfectant process and repeated use.

Thousands of individual creative professionals have lost contracts, gigs, and teaching work. Performance cancellations, closures and physical distancing requirements are having a devastating impact on greater Portland’s arts community. In Multnomah County alone, more than 900 individual artists responding to a recent survey estimated nearly $9 million in lost income just for March through May, 2020.
This is where you can give – and get – help.
RACC’s Emergency Fund for Individual Artists supports individual creative professionals who have experienced a financial loss due to the global pandemic. The fund is open to artists at all levels of their careers, in a broad variety of disciplines. Applicants will be asked to share evidence of their artistic practice, household income and financial loss in the application. RACC will make awards up to $500 in order to support as many individual artists as possible, prioritizing those without access to other COVID-19 relief funds. Technical support and translation services are available.
Give, so artists can survive economically in Oregon.
Apply, so creativity can thrive and lead our collective healing through this critical time.
Although we have received a great response for the Oregon City Festival of the Arts, we have decided to extend the date of Application to May 1st, and the acceptance announcement to May 15th.
If you have been thinking of applying – please do! We are particularly looking for unique genres to ensure the balance of mediums.
If you or anyone you know works in the realm of Woodworking, 3D Metal Working, Sculpting or any kind of unique expression, we urge you to apply.
This is a fun and exciting annual event that takes place each year during the second weekend of August. The Festival typically draws 2500-3000 people over the weekend with over 60 artists’ booths, food vendors, local theatrical and musical performances, an Emerging Artists’ Exhibit, a Children’s Craft Corner, and so much more.

If you’ve noticed some wonderful updates and changes to TRAG’s Facebook and membership Group Facebook lately, that is the work of Kristina Browning. In addition to a degree from the Art Institute of Seattle plus a successful Real Estate business and a podcast about home aesthetics, Kristina is highly knowledgeable in all kinds of social media marketing. You may also be familiar with Kristina’s own website, Facebook page and Instagram feed called Oregon City Guide which she created to promote and enhance all things about Oregon City.
TRAG is extremely fortunate to have Kristina give a Virtual Presentation through Zoom regarding the use of Instagram and Facebook and how to use this to promote your Art. Kristina plans to start from the basics and then open up the presentation for questions. If you have not used Zoom before, it is the leading app for on-line and virtual meetings. You will be able to see yourself and all attendees. You will automatically be on mute once you link in. By a raise of hands, the presenter will be able to call your name, which at that time you can unmute yourself and ask your questions. No worries – it is actually very simple and user-friendly. | COVID-19 Arts Organizations & Artists Impact Survey We all know the power of arts and culture to bring us together and we know that we need the arts – and artists – now more than ever to weather this challenging time.It’s difficult to predict how colleagues and friends will be affected by the coronavirus, so we are joining together to get a snapshot of the impact of what arts organizations and all the different types of artists in Oregon are facing. This will help funders be responsive, and also help all of us make the case for support to leaders in government, business and philanthropy. Due to the health issues surrounding the COVID 19 virus, and in order to protect both our members and customers, the TRAG Gallery will be closed until further notice. Additionally, the April 13th public Guild meeting at the Pioneer Center will also be cancelled. Instead, there will be a virtual Guild meeting about the use of Instagram and Facebook for the artist. All other meetings are subject to further notice. Please take care of yourselves and stay well. We are especially looking for artists in the genres of Woodworking, 3D Metalworking, Sculpture, Textiles, and Unique Mediums.
The Festival attracts 2500-3000 over the weekend. It includes over 60 Artists’ booths, all day entertainment on 2 stages, a free children’s craft corner, an emerging artist exhibit, a silent auction, and so much more.
